Commissions
Alice Gomez accepts commissions for various instrumentations, including orchestral, choral and educational pieces. A commissioning agreement can be downloaded here.
Previous commissioning organizations include:
- The Turtle Creek Chorale and Women's Chorus of Dallas: Borrowed Time for mixed choir and ensemble. This piece was commissioned to be performed at "Sing for the Cure," a concert benefitting the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The music was written by Alice Gomez, text by Pamela Martin, and Dr. Maya Angelou read the narration at the premier performance in Dallas, Texas, 2000. A compact disc recording of this work was released by the Turtle Creek Chorale.
- Minnesota Orchestra: Two pieces for chamber ensemble written in the Spanish style to accompany the story of "Ferdinand, The Bull."
- San Antonio Symphony: Over twenty orchestral pieces written during a three-year residency. The works were
primarily written in Mexican and Latin musical styles. Some of the titles were Los Voladores, Las Soldaderas, Homenaje a Cesar Chavez The Mambo Concerto, Homenaje a la Virgen de San Juan, and Festive Huapango.
- Velvet Brown. Tuba soloist and Instructor at Pennsylvania State University: Bonampak for tuba and piano. This piece was recorded by Ms. Brown on the Crystal Records label.
- Lauraine Carpenter, Principal Trumpet w/Toledo Symphony: Latin Jazz Suite for trumpet and conga drums.
- Terry Muska, Guitarist: Sanctus for solo guitar.
- George Gregory, Carilloneur: Shaman, and Los que mueren, nunca se olvidan for carillon (bell tower).
- KLRN Public Television Station: Harding Black Biography, entire musical score for this half hour television special.
- Nova Trio: Iberian Passages for flute, English horn, and guitar.
- Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center: Curanderas Serpents of the Clouds - entire musical score for this dramatic ballet.
Bowling Green State University Brass Studio: Highlife for tuba solo and three percussionists.
- Junction Tuba Ouartet: El Bosque Verde (The Green Forest) for tuba quartet.
- Texas Lutheran College: Jambo for viola and marimba.
- William Peter Kline, Trombonist: Concerto di Jazz for trombone and piano.
- Southwest Guitar Festival: I I I Degrees for guitar orchestra.
- American Guild of Organists, Alamo Chapter: Praise and Exaltation! Solo organ work commissioned for the 2003 Region VII Convention of the American Guild of Organists.
- Children's Chorus of San Antonio: 0 Gran Espiritu (0 Great Spirit) for children's chorus, flute, percussion, and piano.
- Alamo City Men's Chorus: Estaciones (Seasons) for men's chorus, flute, piano, bass, and percussion.
- Gallup Summer Arts Performing Academy. NM: Kickin' Up Dust musical score for the entire children's dramatic production.
- San Antonio Guitar Ouartet: Canyons - a three movement programmatic work illustrating the canyons of Big Bend National Park, TX.
